Units of Bitcoins

You may be interested to know that there are accepted sub-units and super-units of bitcoins.

Sub-units of Bitcoin

  • mBTC represents one-thousandth of a bitcoin (0.001) and is called a milli-bitcoin or millie/millibit for short
  • μBTC represents one-millionth of a bitcoin (0.000001) and is a micro-bitcoin, also known as a bit
  • sat represents one-hundered-millionth of a bitcoin (0.00000001) and is known as a satoshi after the bitcoin’s creator.

Super-units of Bitcoin

  • kBTC is one thousand bitcoins and is known as a kilo-bitcoin
  • MBTC is one million bitcoins and is known as a mega-bitcoin
